Lessons learned from AUG

  1. NEVER EVER print static pages with Python. Use a framework to save infinite time.
  2. First choose a proper database schema to save future headaches. Do not create a table for every branch. Instead have a branch field.
  3. Upload your code to GitHub and ask people for help. You’ll be surprised how many would love to help newbies.
  4. Never try to reinvent and wheel. Use existing libraries.
  5. Try and make use of the GAE. It saves a lot of time as they obviously have blazing speeds.
  6. Use more functions, comments and better variable names. It makes it WAY easier to extend code for bigger projects.
  7. Tell/Email people about it. Disregard social hierarchy. Doesn’t matter if you appear to be a show off.
